Reggae Gospel maestro, Buchi gave a stellar performance in the recent Inner-City Mission concert in Benin, Nigeria.
The concert that was organized to raise money for indigent children in underprivileged urban areas, primarily in Africa-- was a total hit. Buchi's surprise appearance drew massive crowds, virtually emptying the streets of Benin.
The music reverberated throughout the city walls, uplifting the massive crowds with those awesome signature-Buchi reggae beats, booming bass lines and rhythmic 'Rasta' riffs.
Buchi has been crowned as Africa's voice of gospel reggae. For decades, the reggae gospel artist has been captivating fans with unforgettable performances. His recent Abuja concert emptied streets, making it "one of the most popular gospel crossover concerts in Nigerian history." Buchi has released five audio albums and two video albums: These Days So Beautiful, What a life, The Sound of Life, and Over the years.
Buchi was born in Kaduna in 1963 and has lived most of his life in the lively city of Lagos.
Buchi, who is also the Inner City Mission Goodwill Ambassador planned this special event with his fellow Christ Embassy members of Benin, Zone 1 in order to raise awareness about "the plight of the indigent", as well as raise funds to support the InnerCity Mission in reaching vulnerable children around the world.
The concert ended up raising thousands of dollars.
Families in the Benin community who attended the show were seen shedding tears from the sheer emotional and inspirational atmosphere that was saturated with Christ's spirit. The attendants were also incredibly grateful for the initiative that was created to raise money for them and their families.
This is not the first concert of this nature to bring joy on such a massive scale. Pastor Chris, the president of both Christ Embassy and the NGO -Inner City Mission has been responsible for countless efforts to raise money for the neglected and disadvantaged. Pastor Chris also frequently has his hand in the music scene and has single-handedly fostered a global gospel empire filled with the world's top artists known as the Loveworld Music Ministry.
Martin Phike, AKA Martin PK, the South African native--is one of the hottest gospel pop singers of our time and burst onto the scene at 16 years old. He began his career as the young musical prodigy of Gabi Le Roux, South Africa's biggest producer (responsible for names such as Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Lebo Mathosa, Danny K and of course the beloved Mandoza). The young star only took off from there. After a good stint as a teen pop star, the musician, alongside his brother, created the unforgettable South African boyband 'Inadiflo'.
The band saw a lot of success and landed a record deal with Sony. In 2004, he and his group Ghetto Lingo entered the Coca-Cola Popstars and were selected out of 15,000 participants. Fast forward to 2019 and Martin PK, with a career that now spans about two decades is currently one of the voices of the Loveworld Music Ministry, ministering to a global audience with his beautiful worship songs. His lyrics, bring words of hope and upliftment and make your heart sing. Get your Martin PK 'fix' with these five holy tunes!
The love in this song flows like water and is essentially a song of gratitude to the Lord Almighty. The Holy Spirit that guides us all cannot always be expressed in song, yet Martin PK seems to succeed.
Thus, Saith the Spirit
Based on the remarkable quote in Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, this song is an ode to the scripture. We are all merely messengers of the Lord.
Martin PK's penetrating voice is accompanied by the heavenly echoes "How wonderful Jesus", an effect that elevates your soul straight to the heavens. The video was shot in the beautiful Mahe Island in Seychelles, a place that almost represents paradise! Certainly, the apt theme for the song.
Nothing is Impossible
Once you accept that God is inside of you, there is simply nothing that can stand in your way, there is just no reason for fear. What better way to celebrate this glorious notion, other than with Martin PK's hit track- Nothing is impossible. Enjoy this breathtaking performance on the Californian stage.
You are Great
Shot in the Holy Land, Jerusalem this worship song's music video features some of the most sacred structures in Judeo-Christian history. One can feel the blessed earth beneath his feet by just simply watching it, not to mention the song itself moves the soul.

Kanye West decided to turn a recent Sunday prayer session into a full-blown concert. The result- a successful Kanye Hip Hop show infused with gospel church energy.
The prayers service turned Hip Hop show featured some of the biggest names in the rap industry, with collaborators such as Kid Cudi, Tony Williams and 070 Shake. The artists performed some of their best hits as well as gospel renditions including “Reborn,” “I Wonder” and “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1.” According to the crowds, one of the most touching moments of the performance was his song 'Reborn', "the best song to come out of G.O.O.D Music’s chaotic summer.
Kanye West has said that his spiritual breakthrough is largely due to the artist Chance the Rapper. West has thanked the famed Christian rapper for helping him "reconnect him to his Christian faith, which is greatly impacting his family."
In a tweet, the mega-star wrote "you have to see and feel how happy I am and how strong my family is," West tweeted. "We are even stronger because of this through the love and grace of God.”
"I need to speak about how Chance demanding that we record in Chicago reconnected me with my roots and also my faith in Jesus Christ," he said. Over the summer, the two artists collaborated on a joint album in a Chicago studio. According to xxlmag.com, "Chance and West did not complete the album but apparently, their time together was an opportunity for Chance to share some of his faith with the controversial trailblazer enough to stir his faith back up."
Chance is not only inspiring others to follow the righteous path but is also on his own spiritual mission. Earlier this month, he announced that he’s leaving the country to “learn the Word of God,” acknowledging that while he was raised in a Christian home, he’s essentially “unfamiliar” with the Bible.
"I’m on a plane headed out the country on my first sabbatical,” the artist wrote in a recent Instagram post. “I’m going away to learn the Word of God which I am admittedly very unfamiliar with. I’ve been brought up by my family to know Christ, but I haven’t taken it upon myself to really just take a couple of days and read my Bible. We all quote scripture and tell each other what God likes and doesn’t like, but how much time do we spend as followers of Jesus to really just read and KNOW His Word. I’m definitely guilty of not devoting time to it.”
It sounds like we can all be expecting some amazing music from both Kanye and Chance very soon.
This year's Experience concert just wrapped up and the turnout was simply overwhelming.
An exhilarated crowd at the recent 'Experience Concert in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, Nigeria roared and cheered at the incredible line-up of this year's gospel extravaganza. The concert, now in its 13th year has been the most popular concert for gospel fans around the world. This year, under the theme 'Jesus Our Peace' the artistes dedicated their music to the pursuit of world peace by improvising and creating songs on the spot with the word 'peace'. Some musicians even quoted scripture while keeping in with the theme.
African-American pop-gospel singer Kirk Franklin took to the stage with an impressive rap on the subject. In his song, he wowed crowds with the words peace transcends to Abuja Akwa Ibom etc. Among the many other artists were, Planet Shakers, Don Moen, Donnie McClurkin, Eben, Chioma Jesus, Travis Greene, Mike Aremu, Glowreeyah, Timi Dakolo all of which dazzled the tens of thousands of soul-winners that stood before them.
The show also featured incredible collaborations between artists and was indeed an enlightening experience for all present. The world’s finest gospel artistes led the crowd into fiery praise and worship into God’s glorious embrace. Over 70 000 people united and inspired with reverence over musicians overpowering musical ministering.
Explaining the choice of theme, The Experience Convener, Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House On The Rock Church said, “The theme ‘Jesus our Peace’ is significant because it precedes a crucial election year. Despite many challenges Nigerians may face, we cannot afford to lose faith in God’s ability to turn things around for our good, choosing to see a bright future, the Nigeria of our dreams, one that we can proudly bequeath to the ‘next-generations.’ Above all, peace must be our ultimate candidate, regardless of the outcome of the elections – we all need to work together for a peaceful win.”
Pastor Paul Adefarasin continued by stressing that not only is the annual concert a source of inspiration to millions of gospel fans and congregants, but it is also a tourist attraction for the nation of Nigeria.
“The Experience is a major contributor to both our National and State economies through tourism and its associated businesses.”, Adefarasin continued, noting that “Entrepreneurs have developed and birthed various enterprises which substantially contribute to the economy in areas of human capital development, hospitality, commerce and industry.
“The Entertainment sector of the economy has also blossomed over the last 12 years of the Experience. This is evident as many of our indigenous gospel artistes who featured on its platform have become highly sought-after internationally, with significant changes in their personal economies. Several international collaborations between our home-based music ministers and their foreign counterparts have been birthed on this very platform.”
With an incredibly successful Experience 2018 behind us, millions of fans are already looking forward to the next one.

It's Christmas time, the most festive and holy time of the year! It's a time to rejoice, to love and appreciate our family, and of course get into that merry groove. The best way of course to do that is to play some good old Christmas tunes. These 5 delightful jingles will warm up your heart, uplift your soul and sprinkle you with some much needed Christmas spirit.
Whitney Houston- Joy to the World
Whitney Houston has been blowing us away for decades. The legendary superstar's beautiful rendition of the Christmas carol 'Joy to the World' is deeply moving and guaranteed to bring in that magical Christmas feeling. Houston recorded the song for the 1996 film, The Preacher's Wife, a film in which she also acted. The carol is so popular in fact, that it has been recorded by many other world-famous artists, such as Boney M, Mariah Carey, and even the Jonas Brothers.
Mariah Carey- O Holy Night
Every Christmas this songbird delights us with her legendary holiday hits. This song is of course from her classic Christmas album of 1994, Merry Christman. This album is full of beautiful covers of our favorite carols such as 'All I Want for Christmas is You', 'Silent Night, Christmas' (Baby Please Come Home) and much more. While Carey gives her own special twist, this song is actually centuries years old and was originally written in French! The song was also, according to the Canadian inventor, Reginald Fessenden a pioneer in radio broadcasting, the live broadcast of a song in history.
Brenda Lee- Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
Johnny Marks, the prolific Christmas songwriter is famous for his many Christmas hits such as "Holly Jolly Christmas " and " Rudolph The Red - Nosed Reindeer. " This song was first released in 1958. Brenda Lee's rendition, however, is one has been cemented in history. In a 2006 interview with the Chicago Tribune, Lee explained that she recorded this in July with Nashville producer Owen Bradley, saying "Owen had the studio all freezing cold with the air conditioning, and he had a Christmas tree all set up to kind of get in the mood just a little bit. We had a lot of fun."
Holy Holy Holy - Kurt Carr
The American gospel music composer and performer actually served as a Minister of Music at The First Baptist Church of Hartford in Connecticut. The artist certainly has Jesus's love running through his veins. The singer, however, did not grow up in a spiritual family at all, yet at 13, felt drawn to the church, and of course church music. There, together with the help of his acting chops, he developed in his school theatre class, and his passion for the Gospel, Carr turned into one of the most inspiring gospel performers of all time. His song Holy Holy Holy is perfect on a Christmas Eve.
Reason for The Season, Patti LaBelle
The famed Patti LaBelle, once considered by some to be Aretha Franklin's rival, belts out her heartfelt take on the song 'The Reason for the Season'. LaBelle's Christmas album is filled with smooth and uplifting tunes that are guaranteed to light up your hearts and usher in the festive holiday spirit. It is the perfect mix between soulful praise and joyous holiday melody that only Patti LaBelle can pull off.
Little Drummer Boy - Pentatonix
This award-winning a capella group gives a fresh new take on one of the oldest Christmas carols of our time. The five-member group aptly named the Pentanonix specializes mostly in covering Christmas songs by harmonizing beautifully orchestrated vocal arrangements and beatboxing. The band was formed only in 2011 and has already snatched up a bunch of Grammies, and various other internet-based awards, such as the YouTube Awards and the Streamy Awards, an award that recognizes in online video production

CSO- Worship Song and Song of the Year
The song 'Holy Spirit' won Worship Song and Song of the year. CSO, also known as Sharon Oyakhilome is a minister of the Gospel, singer, songwriter, bandleader, as well as the leader of Christ Embassy London. As the daughter of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the artist grew up in the LoveWorld Nation. According to the artist, the song was written about the "most important person here on earth, the Holy Spirit." The gospel starlet said that when she wrote the song she was "praying and fellowshipping with Him, He gave me the lyrics and the melody." The beautiful music video was shot in breathtaking Switzerland.
UR Flames’ - Theme Song of The Year
Boyband UR Flames blew audiences away with their hit song and certainly did give everyone 'something to shout about'. The song set the theme for the entire IPPC, making everyone get up and move, including the Loveworld president himself, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. The duo is no strangers to success. UR Flames have also won awards for the best music video and have performed around the world to their millions of fans.
Testimony Jaga - Song of the Year
The Afro-pop dance track Jehovah is both a local and international hit. The artist, who was recently dubbed the gospel 'King of the Streets' is famous for making music for the street youth of Lagos as well as at the world at large. Testimony was last year's newcomer and has since received worldwide fame with his dance hits. The gospel star recently said in an interview in the Nigerian Tribune, how grateful he is for the platform he has received from his church leader, Pastor Chris.
Sinach- Best Female Vocalist
Loveworld crooner and crowd favorite, Sinach won best female singer once again. The vocalist has been dubbed the queen of gospel, filling stadiums all over the world. Sinach started in small prayer groups in her church choir and eventually went on to be on the biggest gospel singers alive today. Her song 'I know who I am' beautifully celebrates identity and belief in God.
There were certainly many more hit songs that evening that celebrated LMAM's year of music. Just some of them include the first ever quintuple tie in Best Male Vocalist Category; Isaiah Samson, Martin PK, Eben, Obi Shine and Chris Shalom celebrated for exceptional vocals, Lewis, Singer of Hit Track and Best New Act winner, with the song Bulletproof and the UK Mass Choir who won Host Choir of the Year for UK Leaders’ & Partners’. Testimony is making major waves in the LMAM music scene. This gospel prince has a LIMA best song of the year and has been leading troubled youths from the streets into a righteous path.
Testimony, originally born as Saliu Aliyu Olaiwola had a blossoming career before he found the church. Long before the gospel crossover, the artist was a rising secular star creating music and collaborating with some of the industry's hottest artists. It took some time for the musician to make it into the world of gospel, but when Testimony stumbled into church music, it changed his life forever.
Testimony fell into the church from an unfortunate incident. In 2011 the artist was wrongly accused of stealing a car. With no support and no evidence to back him up, the police arrested the rising star and sent him to prison for 4 months. It was in there, that Testimony prayed with all his might to God to see him through. Fortunately for him, his prayers were heard, and the musician was released. It was on that day that Testimony found himself in Christ Embassy, the church of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.
Pastor Chris welcomed the young artist and saw his potential. He believed in him, nurtured him and gave him a platform on which he could create music and reach millions of people. This gave Testimony a new sense of hope and belief, not only in God but also in himself. With all of this support, this led the artist to discover new ways to spread his message, thus the 'Street Gospel Movement' was born.
The New Street Gospel Movement is a movement that uses music to spread the word of God to struggling street youths. This is a big part of Testimony's work. He spends a lot of time finding kids to reach out to. He approaches these kids with his music and just simply talks to them, telling them, with a song, that there is a better path.
"If truly I am a gospel minister, where am I supposed to go back to share the good news? The streets. I am saying, “Hello, people, come and see what God has done for me. You too can join me”. That is my mindset and I promised God that if I can make it, I will go back from where I come from to tell everyone there. My songs are for the people in the streets."
Countless Nigerian kids love Testimony's music, as well as many around the world. They feel that he really speaks to them. This has gained him a massive amount of popularity, with people even dubbing him as the gospel version' of the famous Nigerian musician, Olamide, 'The King of the Streets'.
Christ Embassy has propelled these many gospel stars into global fame, with Pastor Chris Oyakhilome himself even stating at the recent LIMA awards, that "no music concert in the world makes sense without talents from here."
Testimony is without a doubt one of these major talents. His song 'Jehovah' won him the LIMA song of the year in the Proto-stars category, yet the 'boy from the streets' insists that all of his success is because of one man, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.
